#ReFRESH Agribusiness & Tourism: two student hackathons organized with IME support
With the aim to bring digital solutions closer to the agriculture and tourism sectors, the Swiss Increasing Market Employability Programme supported the Student Parliament FINKI (Faculty of Computer Sciences and Engineering) to organize two hackathons.
More than 30 students from FINKI, the Faculty of Agriculture Sciences and Food and the Faculty of Tourism (UTMS Skopje) worked in mixed groups for 48 hours to come up with digital solutions applicable in the two sectors.
The students were mentored by university professors and they were developing digital solutions based on real needs identified with the private sector.
Following the pitching sessions, a panel od experts from the business and academic field, selected the two winning solutions:
- A web platform that will provide solution for tour operators as it will save time and effort in alerting and managing their supply chain of transporters, accommodation providers, restaurants, activity operators etc. As a new tour reservation is confirmed, this system will send automatic notifications and itinerary updates to all stakeholders involved in the tour.
- An online platform with a B2B and educational aspect on autochthonous seeds approved by the Ministry of Agriculture of North Macedonia. This platform will enable farmers and agribusinesses search for various seed variants and stay updated on relevant news and education articles on the topic.
The two winning teams have four months to finish their products which will then be offered to companies and organizations from the tourism and agribusiness sectors.
The #ReFRESH Agribusiness & Tourism hackathons were an excellent opportunity for students from different fields to collaborate closely, to establish direct contact with the businesses and to work on solutions that will respond to market needs.
